From the time when we were children, a lot of us have had trouble successfully eating our greens. It has become especially hard in a world full of so much easy to access processed food. Deli meats and sweet snacks dominate most of our shops, and our intake of greens seems to decline every passing day. This should not be the case however, because greens are rich in all forms of nutrients that are essential to countless bodily functions. How do we then increase out intake of greens for our very own health?
- Make it into a smoothie
Don’t like how the regular feel of solid vegetables tastes? Why not try throwing everything in a blender with some milk and honey or water and ice? Smoothies are far easier to ingest because all you have to do is drink. The best thing about them is how easily you can make it one with numerous additions such as lemon for some tang, ice for some refreshing cold, or herbs for your own personal health.
- Dry them
Ever heard of vegetable chips? This is what you get when you dry up vegetables. It is very easy to do actually; just arrange them in a baking sheet and toss them in the oven for a few minutes. Spice them up beforehand to get a variant that is exciting to snack on whenever you feel like having some in the course of the day. You can even carry them with you to work for a quick daytime snack. Vegetable chips are by far the healthier alternative to calorie-dense normal chips.
- Diversify
It is no secret that eating the same kinds of greens over and over can be boring. But you don’t have to limit yourself in this way. What you get from one vegetable, you may find yourself also getting from another. Every time you go vegetable shopping, pick as many different vegetable kinds as you can. A little research can go a long way in helping you come up with countless recipes, especially in the internet age we live in. So diversify your options, to lock the boredom preventing you from eating vegetables out of your diet.
- Toss them into your regular food
Making a curry? Toss in some carrots or Brussels sprouts. Interested in a sauce? Toss in some green beans. Grilling some meat? Cut up some vegetables and grill them side by side. Finding ways to incorporate vegetables into your regular cooking goes a long way in increasing your intake of greens.
