Is there anything better than cooling off on a hot summer day with a popsicle?
This was part of my childhood! Growing up we didn’t have a pool to cool down in so my Mom coming outside with popsicles was the second-best thing!
I still love them, but I don’t love that they are filled with artificial flavors, dyes and tons of sugar.
Instead of my daughter missing out on the fun, we have decided to make our own this summer! We are having a ton of fun experimenting with different ingredients and some of these popsicles are ending up with a heap full of nutrients (bonus!).
Give some of these recipes a try, they are so guilt-free that you can have them any time of the day (they also fix every meltdown lol).
Yummy Mommy
- 2 bananas
- 1/2 avocado
- 1 1/2 tsp cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp. peanut butter
- 1/2 cup milk
*If you have large bananas, you may need to add more milk to the mixture to thin it out a bit*
- Place all ingredients into and blend until smooth
- Pour into a popsicle mold and place in the freezer until frozen
Gotcha With Greens
- ½ cup spinach
- ¼ cup kale leaves, chopped (tough stems removed)
- 1 ½ banana
- ½ of a whole pineapple, peeled and cut into chunks
- ⅔-3/4 cup water
- Combine spinach, kale, bananas, and pineapple in a blender and puree
- Add water and puree a second time
- Place all ingredients into and blend until smooth
- Pour into a popsicle mold and place in the freezer until frozen
Berry Red
- 1 cup strawberries, chopped (thawed if using frozen, but keep juices)
- 1/2 cup pitted cherries (thawed if using frozen, but keep juices)
- 1/2 small cooked red beet (I used the pre-cooked beets from Trader Joes)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon water
- Place all ingredients into and blend until smooth
- Pour into a popsicle mold and place in the freezer until frozen
Enjoy
