Today was the first snowfall! Something about the first snowfall makes you just want to pull out your plaid pajamas, big wool socks and have a hot chocolate in front of the fire!
Well, that is exactly what I did! Except for this year, I decided to spruce my hot chocolate up with a little antioxidant kick!
There are so many colds going around this time of year, that anything I can do to give those germs a kick in the butt, I’m on it!
I was extremely happy how this hot chocolate turned out! I used honey as I find the matcha can raw cacao can be pretty bitter but I think real maple syrup would be delicious also! If you wanted to make it a bit creamier, you could also add a little coconut cream, since I kept this recipe dairy-free!
Matcha is incredible and it has so many health benefits! In 1 tsp of matcha powder, there are 17X more antioxidants than in blueberries! Its also great for enhancing the mood, calming the mind, its rich in chlorophyll to help keep the body alkalized and support detox pathways.
I love using the powder as its a lot more potent. 1 serving of the powder equals 10 cups of matcha tea!! However, with it being potent, means the taste is a lot stronger! Something like hot chocolate is a great way to mask the taste and to be honest, I feel its a great compliment in flavor!
I warmed up 2 cups of coconut milk over the stove top on high heat. I used a whisk to keep stirring until it started to bubble! You can absolutely use regular milk for this recipe, I just wanted a dairy-free alternative.
Once boiling, I reduce heat and added 1 tbsp of raw honey, 1 tbsp of raw cocoa powder and 2 tsp of matcha powder. It was the perfect amount for 2 cups for my husband and I.
I hope you enjoy
