PREGNANCY PROTOCOL TO PROTECT AGAINST COVID 19

I am navigating late pregnancy during a global pandemic and feel deeply for the other moms ( especially first-time moms) who are pregnant, about to give birth, or have a newborn at home.

The world definitely is a lot different than how it was when I was pregnant with my first child. To all the mammas who were looking forward to baby showers, showing off your baby to family/friends, shopping for all things baby, mom and baby playgroups, witnessing your first ultrasound with your partner in the room, were in mid cycle fertility treatment and it got canceled, dealing with social isolation, not getting to hold your partner’s hand during labor, scared as you didn’t get your hospital tour, had to change your birth plan last minute, dealing with the shortage of diapers and formula, having a c-section alone with no support person, scared of the uncertainty of the risk of COVID infection to pregnant and new babies, having canceled OB appointments late in your pregnancy, picking which parent goes to NICU…… remember you are not alone. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I know this may not be ideal, money may be tight and everything you have planned and imagined during your pregnancy or delivery isn’t going as thought. Just remember, through it all, a healthy baby and mommy is the most important thing.

There is only so much we have control over in a pandemic and protecting ourselves from the virus. One thing that I have done to help protect myself and my babies is boosting my immune system. Having a strong immune system will help protect me from the virus and heaven forbid I come in contact with it, help fight it off, and reduce its severity.

Here is the pregnancy protocol I have been following along with dosing:

  1. Vitamin C (Liposomal) – 1,500 mg/day. Don’t exceed 2000 mg of C during pregnancy. For liposomal C, swish for 30 seconds then swallow. Take in divided doses throughout the day with meals.
  2. Vitamin D3K2 –  1,000 IU/day
  3. Cod Liver Oil – 1 tsp daily with a fat-containing meal
  4. Complete Probiotic – 50 billion CFU daily, with meals, divided into 2-3 doses
  5. Magnesium Bisglycinate –  450 mg daily ( divide into doses throughout the day)
  6. Suro Elderberry Syrup (KIDS version) – 2 tsp daily, in divided doses
  7. Pre Natal – follow dosing on the bottle. 100mcg of selenium daily is recommended. Most prenatal vitamins have around 40-50 mcg so you can top up through nutrition.  Examples of selenium-rich foods are salmon (4 oz = 43 mcg), mushrooms (1 cup = 20 mcg), turkey/chicken/lamb (4 oz = 30 mcg) and egg (1 egg = 15 mcg).
  8. Dietary zinc and copper consumption (a few times per week). A great food-based source of balanced zinc and copper is pumpkin seed oil.

I know this has been a challenging time for expecting mammas with all the changes and unknowns. Just do your best to focus on what you have control over and just take things day by day. Stay strong mammas, keep that immune system strong, and remember we are in this together
